HKU Master of Arts

The HKU Master of Arts in Creative Communications offers an intensive programme to expand your creativity, identify your own creative values, and discover your impact and signature of Creative Communications for growth in the 21st century.

With an emphasis on language and discourse, and rooted in prestigious research and practice at HKU, the MACC welcomes all emerging professionals to expand their global footprint and creative impact. The MACC opens out creative foundations and futures of professional leadership, whether in an individual project, for example, such as a film or memoir; or in a professional context, such as app development or architecture. Participants in the programme will have a unique chance to join colleagues in the MFA in Creative Writing for several classes in the curriculum, joining forces and cross-fertilizing knowledge among those in the creative sector.

MACC students will thus discover and expand their creative adaptability and competitive muscle in theory and practice, life-changing and transformative for expanding audience, clients, and professional impact. Courses in the programme feature macro and micro vision and creativity, experimental studio courses in creative collaboration, and a capstone project in creativity and happiness, developing each emerging and creative leader’s own vision and lifelong path.

The MA in Creative Communications is offered full-time over one year.   • 1 academic year of intensive full-time study with fellow creative writers inside a vibrant campus community
  • Key development of lifelong habits in craft, revision, and collaborative partnerships to continue to strengthen individual work of creative writing and original innovations of fluid and contemporary genre decisions
  • Innovative courses, workshops, and partnerships to customize and tailor the MACC to each writer’s evolving needs during the programme
  • Encouragement of artistic exchanges and interactive participation with fellow creative writers and artists, a range of audience, and networks of publishers and agents
  • Preparation of a sophisticated, masterful, and compelling creative manuscript eligible for circulation to presses, publishing houses, and agents at the conclusion of the programme
  • Discovery of individual paths upon graduation: including, international publication; local and overseas positions in lecturing, teaching, and coaching; and striking changes of career, rooted in new-found confidence and discovery of excellence in fresh writing and perspective

The School of English engages in research and provides instruction at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in literary and cultural studies, English linguistics and Language and Communication. Our courses are designed to be interesting, challenging, and rigorous. Our emphasis is on critical and independent thinking, and we hope to prepare students to face a technologically advanced, globally competitive, and culturally open society. We incorporate a variety of teaching and learning methods, including formal lectures, seminars, small group tutorials, workshops, and online learning.
