The HKU Black Box is a unique and innovative studio and theatre in the School of English and Faculty of Arts. Home to innovative creative courses, productions and international research partnerships, it provides a university cabaret and festive atmosphere welcoming all levels of participation.

Designed for trial-and-error development in the arts and research, The Black Box joins courage, knowledge and craft to invite new works every day. It features writers, dramatists, scholars, artists, and performers of all kinds to the many possibilities of their creative work.

The HKU Black Box is located on the new Centennial Campus at HKU on the Lower Ground Floor, LG.54.

The creative space hosts a full schedule of seminars, readings, screenings, performances, and workshops throughout the year, with performers joining from HKU, Hong Kong more widely, and around the world. The Black Box hosts internal HKU events, as well as city-wide events and activities organised with the HKU community. Participants are also invited to join the HKU Guild, engaging in workshops, readings and performances.

There are variable periods when the venue is available for booking. Such bookings will be vetted by the HKU Black Box team and will be approved based on venue availability and suitability of the proposed programming. Contact us to inquire. Site visits must be arranged in advance, since the HKU Black Box runs continuously, and events cannot be interrupted directly on site.
